What’s New in Emergency Preparedness?
What you need to know about emergency preparedness in today’s unstable world.
Is emergency preparedness on your mind? Are you prepared for the worst or do you tend to think that disaster will never hit close to home? If you fall into the later category, you may find yourself in a sticky situation should disaster strike.
I’m Ryan Edgerton and I’m here to tell you what you need to know about emergency preparedness and why it should be important to you.

Emergency Preparedness Rule #1 — Disaster Can Strike Anyone, Anywhere at Anytime
The “it can never happen to me” phenomena never ceases to amaze me. When disaster strikes, the most common things people say are “I never saw it coming” or “I never thought it would happen to me.”
Unfortunately, we all think it will never happen to us, but the first thing you need to know about emergency preparedness is that emergencies can happen to any of us, anywhere and at anytime.
Emergency Preparedness Rule #2 — Prepare Now
Procrastination is your own worst enemy. The last thing you want to do is find yourself unprepared in the middle of an emergency and saying, “I just didn’t get around to preparing.” Procrastination may not seem like a big deal at the time, but if you’re too late when it comes to emergency preparedness, it can turn into a very, very big deal.
Emergency Preparedness Rule #3 — Have an Organized Plan and the Supplies to Carry It Out
Every person who is serous about emergency preparedness has a good emergency plan and has an emergency kit as well. Make sure that you put together an emergency kit containing the items that are essential to your survival and make sure that you put together an emergency preparedness plan that includes a meeting place for your family, evacuation routes should you need to evacuate, and emergency phone numbers and stored personal information.
Emergency Preparedness Rule #4 – Make Plans for Your Pets
If you have pets, you know they’re like family. What are you going to do with Fido and Fifi if you have to suddenly evacuate? It’s not always possible to bring your pets with you. That means that you should make plans for your pets ahead of time. Figure out where they’re going or what you can do for them in time of disaster.
Hopefully disaster won’t hit you, but if you follow the above emergency preparedness advice, you’ll be ready if it does.
