Red Cross honors Church efforts

Noted as being highly instrumental in furthering the cause of the American Red Cross the Church was honored Oct. 23 with an Award of Achievement by the American Association of Blood Banks at an event in Anaheim Calif.
Unbeknownst to Church leaders the American Red Cross Services — Lewis and Clark Region which serves patients in Utah Idaho Montana and beyond — submitted the name of the Church for the award.
In a nomination document detailing reasons for the appropriateness of the award the American Red Cross lauds the Church for its spirit of voluntarism for the hundreds of thousands of productive blood units donated as well as allowing the use of Church property during blood drives. Other outstanding support has come in the form of nearly $5 million in cash and over $1 million in-kind support to the American Red Cross since 1986 mainly toward international and domestic disaster relief efforts according to the American Red Cross statement.
Additionally the Red Cross said the Church is responsible for providing volunteer leaders to help in social mobilization and awareness-raising activities in nearly 20 countries ensuring that children received their vaccinations making a true impact in the health and well-being of those suffering in the United States and around the world.
Elder John C. Dalton Area Seventy in the North America West Area received the award on behalf of the Church before hundreds of attendees. For me and my wife it was an honor to represent the Church because of the service and sacrifice of our members in giving to the Red Cross said Elder Dalton.
Though many individuals were honored for their contributions the Church received the only award for an organization as a whole.
