Prepared for emergencies

ORANGE Calif. — As part of their efforts to be prepared in an emergency 56 members from the Orange California Stake earned licenses to be amateur (ham) radio operators on Feb. 7.
Orange California Stake President Matthew Goodman noting the rigorous study required to prepare for an FCC licensing exam said We brought in some Church members from the Pasadena area who voluntarily conducted a crash-course on how to prepare for the exam.
Mike ONeil and Ray Bence have put on the 12-hour Friday evening and Saturday class for more than 400 students who are now amateur radio operators. Brother ONeil clarified their motivation for teaching this course. In a serious widespread emergency telephone and cell phone service may be temporarily interrupted or altogether unavailable thereby leaving amateur radio frequencies as the best way to coordinate relief efforts he said.
