Greek members aid wildfire relief

ATHENS Greece — Members of the Church in Greece joined with the Greek Red Cross to provide 885 hygiene kits to aid those affected by massive wild fires that engulfed parts of the Mediterranean country in August.
An estimated 3500 homes were destroyed and 100000 people were affected by fires that forced the evacuation of the mission office and mission home located a few hundred yards from the fires.
Within three days of receiving approval from Humanitarian Services of the Church in Frankfurt Germany materials were purchased packed and delivered to the Halandri Branch meetinghouse in Athens where 60 people including members missionaries and friends worked from early morning until late night preparing the kits.
Elder James Irvine who with his wife Sister Marj OLee Irvine spearheaded the project said that Red Cross representatives were surprised to receive so many kits and to receive them so quickly.
