Everything You Wanted to Know About Survival Foods
A comprehensive guide to survival foods and survival food practices.
If you’re thinking about emergency preparedness, you know that survival foods play a big part of the program. You need three things to survive and that’s food, water and shelter. If you’re faced with a disaster, without survival foods you chances of living through it are decreased dramatically.

While you may be able to survive for a few days without survival foods, you won’t have the strength of energy you necessary for you to do what you have to do. What if you need to walk for miles and miles? Could you do it if you were dizzy and fatigued from hunger? Probably not. Survival foods play a critical role in your survival readiness.
I’m Ryan Edgerton and I’m going to review some survival foods basics with you so you’ll be armed with the knowledge you need when it comes to survival food success.
How Much Do You Need?
Let’s face it, you can never have too many survival foods stored away. Many people suggest having at least three days worth of survival foods on hand, but is that really enough? What if you’re stranded for weeks? What if help doesn’t come for a month?
I suggest having at least two to three months of survival foods stored away in your emergency kit if possible. If that’s not feasible for you, make sure you have no less than three days worth.
Rotate Your Stock
If you’re going to be storing a couple of month’s worth of survival foods, you’re going to need to rotate your stock. Since you probably won’t be buying months worth of nitrogen sealed emergency rations, the shelf life of your food is going to be less than it would be with actual survival rations. Because of this, you’re going to need to rotate your survival foods on a regular basis.
To do this, keep your new purchases towards the back of the survival food pantry and take your daily food from the front. This will ensure that you’re constantly rotating your survival foods supplies.
Creating Your Own
Creating your own survival foods isn’t such a bad idea. Canning applesauce, berries, tomato sauce and other canned goods can come in handy in times of an emergency. Especially since fruits and vegetables may not be readily available at the stores if produce can’t reach you from other states. Make sure you can your foods properly and you should be able to store them for quite some time.
While emergency foods may not be the most exciting thing to prepare on a rainy day, they may one day save your life and that’s nothing to ignore.
