Emergency Canned Meat is an Excellent Source During a Disaster

After a disaster, safe evacuation is not the only relief provided to the victims. According to a survey conducted, malnutrition is rampant among the evacuees, since an emergency food generally does not contain the perfect combination of nutrients. The job of food services is to provide food packages in limited situations. This is the time when one needs an alternate source of energy and nutrition.

Keeping an emergency food pantry at home is a wise thing to do for people who stay in disaster prone areas. There are various options as far as canned food is concerned. We have electrolyte drinks, kidney beans, dried food, nuts, like hazel nut, almonds, cashews, peanuts and the endless list goes on! But here comes the contradiction. Meat is a better source for nutrients as compared to fruits. It has a high content of energy, and it proves to be a blessing during an emergency. But when we have an emergency, we run out of water, food and also power, so frozen food is out of the question. Here comes the role of canned meat which can be of fish, beef, turkey breast, ham etc.  Tuna is also a great source of protein which can be used in an emergency.

Single serving canned food is a good option for families since it has to be consumed once opened. The protein gained through meat helps the tissues repair itself, along with building stamina and boosting the immune system.

There are a few things which have to be taken care of while buying canned meat:

  • The label has to be checked carefully on the food bars.
  • The containers should be air tight while buying.
  • There should not be any kind of rust or scratches.
  • Taking these small precautions will help prevent botulism and food poisoning and you can enjoy your food without any worries!
